The buildings and site, formerly a motor dealership and vehicle servicing garages, were stripped back to a shell, fully remodelled including installation of a 750 sqm mezzanine floor and fitted out to create a state-of-the-art electrical and plumbing apprenticeship training facility, which comprises of workshops, classrooms, conference rooms and administration accommodation. The facility also incorporates an AM2 centre, a fire & security workshop and a gas training & assessment centre.
Having been involved from the inception of the scheme, Woodfellows initially undertook a building appraisal and prepared outline scheme designs and budgets to define the client’s brief and requirements.
Woodfellows early involvement also included the preparation of planning proposals, and working alongside a specialist planning consultant Pegasus to manage the planning process, the scheme was successfully granted planning permission.
Following planning approval, the works were fully designed, specified and tendered through single stage selective tendering. Waingap Contracts were subsequently appointed to undertake the construction works package for £1.85m, with Woodfellows acting as Lead Consultant, Project Manager and Contract Administrator for the duration of the contract, along with adopting the role of Principal Designer.
The works were successfully completed to budget and the facility officially opened by the Lord Major of Birmingham, Muhammad Afzal, in February 2022.
